High Tea & Hats 2012

What a fabulous day! Thank you for your support of our High Tea & Hats event that was held at the Peabody Orlando on Sunday, February 12, 2012. The ballroom was infused with an extra burst of color as over 300 guests wearing vibrant hats raised over $40,000 that will go toward helping Central Florida seniors live independently.
Harriett Lake, hat aficionado and Orlando philanthropist, was presented with a beautiful custom made hat as she accepted the second annual Hats Off Award for her support of our seniors. Congratulations to our Hat Winners: Pinky O’Neil, Most Creative Hat; Barbara Howell, Most Proper Hat; and Audrey Luck, Most Outstanding Hat.
Thank you to all our wonderful sponsors, volunteers, guests and to WKMG’s Lauren Rowe for being a wonderful emcee and supporting our mission.

Help Fuel Meals On Wheels”

Your support has kept our mission on the road!

‘Help Fuel Meals On Wheels’ was a huge success and we have YOU to thank! We are lucky to have so many individuals and businesses offering their support.  Over $3,000 was raised and each of our volunteer drivers will receive a $10 gas card to show them that the community is behind them in their efforts to feed our hungry seniors!

If you or someone you know is interested in helping to deliver meals to seniors in Orange County, please call 407.292.0177 x260.

Every weekday, over 1,000 meals are prepared and hand-delivered to Orange County’s hungry, homebound seniors by our army of 300 volunteers. Volunteers are the heart of Meals On Wheels – they are compassionate and courageous folks devoted to caring for our community’s elderly.

VOLUNTEER!

Be a Meals On Wheels Volunteer Driver

Approximately 300 volunteers are needed to deliver 5,020 meals each week in Orange County! The need for volunteers is growing every day, as more seniors turn to Meals On Wheels to help them remain independent and in their own homes. Most of our volunteers deliver meals one day a week, with routes that will take no longer than two hours to complete. Volunteer with your children or grandchildren! Meals On Wheels is a wonderful way to help teach responsibility and the importance of community service.

Create a Delivery Team

Adopt-A-Route” is a simple way for corporations, church groups, social and service clubs to give back to the community. Seniors First will work with your company or organization to create a tailored meal route that will support our seniors and promote team building. Those who “Adopt-A-Route” will take on the delivery requirements of one route, one day a week (Mon-Fri) by providing a team of two for no more than two hours (between 9am and noon).

For information on how to get started call Lorraine Shumaker at 407-615-8982.

March for Meals:

March For Meals is an annual national campaign to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on a local level. Senior Nutrition Programs across the United States promote March For Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives. The campaign takes place in the month of March because it was during this month that the law was enacted that included Senior Nutrition Programs in the Older Americans Act.
