Your support has kept our mission on the road!
‘Help Fuel Meals On Wheels’ was a huge success and we have YOU to thank! We are lucky to have so many individuals and businesses offering their support. Over $3,000 was raised and each of our volunteer drivers will receive a $10 gas card to show them that the community is behind them in their efforts to feed our hungry seniors!
If you or someone you know is interested in helping to deliver meals to seniors in Orange County, please call 407.292.0177 x260.
Every weekday, over 1,000 meals are prepared and hand-delivered to Orange County’s hungry, homebound seniors by our army of 300 volunteers. Volunteers are the heart of Meals On Wheels – they are compassionate and courageous folks devoted to caring for our community’s elderly.
VOLUNTEER!
Be a Meals On Wheels Volunteer Driver
Approximately 300 volunteers are needed to deliver 5,020 meals each week in Orange County! The need for volunteers is growing every day, as more seniors turn to Meals On Wheels to help them remain independent and in their own homes. Most of our volunteers deliver meals one day a week, with routes that will take no longer than two hours to complete. Volunteer with your children or grandchildren! Meals On Wheels is a wonderful way to help teach responsibility and the importance of community service.
Create a Delivery Team
“Adopt-A-Route” is a simple way for corporations, church groups, social and service clubs to give back to the community. Seniors First will work with your company or organization to create a tailored meal route that will support our seniors and promote team building. Those who “Adopt-A-Route” will take on the delivery requirements of one route, one day a week (Mon-Fri) by providing a team of two for no more than two hours (between 9am and noon).
For information on how to get started call Lorraine Shumaker at 407-615-8982.
March for Meals:
March For Meals is an annual national campaign to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on a local level. Senior Nutrition Programs across the United States promote March For Meals in their local communities through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives. The campaign takes place in the month of March because it was during this month that the law was enacted that included Senior Nutrition Programs in the Older Americans Act.
1 in 9 seniors, in the richest country in the world, is hungry and they are often forgotten! So, How can you help? Donate, volunteer, check on your senior neighbor, spread the word! Another way you can help is to sign the Pledge and take action against senior hunger. Click take the Pledge and visit www.mowaa.org for more information. The goal is to end senior hunger by the year 2020. Together we will make sure no senior goes hungry!
